On January 24, Gov. Tony Evers (D) issued a standing order to ensure BadgerCare Plus members have direct access to overthecounter emergency contraception. The order allows BadgerCare Plus members to get OTC emergency contraception from any Wisconsin Medicaid-enrolled pharmacy under their state coverage without a prescription from their doctor and with no out-of-pocket cost to them.

The Department of Health Services announced February 2023 will be the last month families will receive extra benefits in the state’s FoodShare program as a result of enactment of Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, passed by the U.S. Congress in late December. This act ends a federal program that has been providing additional benefits to households enrolled in the FoodShare program.

The Department of Safety and Professional Services announced it earned a $1.4 million grant from the Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance for its Enhanced Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (ePDMP). The grant funds will be used to modernize the self-service functionality and provide improved data quality, better customer support and greater user satisfaction.

Effective immediately, Dr. Jasmine Zapata is the new Wisconsin physician signing the Statewide Standing order for Naloxone. You must use Dr. Zapata’s prescriber number going forward as Dr. Jon Meiman’s prescriber number can no longer be used. In addition, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has updated its web pages. 

Under this new standing order, there are new resources available through the enhanced Dose of Reality Initiative. Patient education regarding overdose recognition and naloxone administration can be found on the following web pages:

Wisconsin Medicaid, ForwardHealth, has released an update on coverage of at-home COVID tests for Medicaid patients. As a reminder, Pharmacies must submit a claim for these tests as a prescription. There is a standing order in place from the Department of Health Services (DHS) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ryan Westerguard. The pharmacists may order the tests and patients may receive 8 tests per 30-day period.
