The blue wave hit, with Democrats winning all 7 statewide constitutional offices.

  • State Representative Gina Hinojosa (D) unseated three-term Republican Gov. Greg Abbott (R), becoming the first Democrat elected to Texas’ top office since Gov. Ann Richards (D) in 1990. Hinojosa is the third female governor of Texas and the first Hispanic governor.
  • State Representative Vikki Goodwin (D) unseated three-term Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R). The last Democrat holding that office was Bob Bullock in 1999.
  • State Senator Nathan Johnson (D) defeated State Senator Mayes Middleton (R) in the race for Attorney General.

Also in Texas, Democrats flipped control of the House of Representatives.
